The next month will be a huge one for Payne Boxing and NC Boxing Awards’ back-to-back manager of the year Gardner Payne. It will get started next weekend down in Montevideo, Uruguay, when light heavyweight Marcos Escudero (7–0–0 (6 KO)) will battle to stay unblemished when he meets Gonzalo Andreasen (3–5–0 (2 KO)). The major focus following his fight for Payne will turn to February 23rd at CenterStage @ NODA, where now three of his fighters will on the card for Christy Martin’s Fight Night.
Wilson, North Carolina native Kelvin King (4–0–1 (4 KO)) was originally the only Payne Boxing fighter on the card, as he is set to headline his second straight Christy Martin Promotions event. Back in October, King highlighted Christy Martin’s Fight Night against Derek Hyatt and recorded a 1st round knockout after just 33 seconds. King will look to continue his reputation as one of the best offensive boxers in the state of North Carolina and pick up his fifth knockout of his career. King’s opponent for the February 23rd bout has yet to be announced to this point, but one would expect the opponent to be announced in the next couple of weeks.
Fellow North Carolina native José Ibarra (3–0–0 (1 KO)) was officially added to the card on Friday morning. Ibarra fought on the card at CenterStage back in November, where he won in a unanimous decision. Ibarra’s last two fights have gone to decision, so he will he enter the fight look for his first knockout since his opponent retired in between rounds in his first professional fight back in August. With him being added to the card today, Ibarra’s opponent has yet to be released, but similar to King, one would expect the opponent to be announced within the next couple of weeks.
The last fighter that will officially be added to the card, should officially be added on Monday. WBA Fedecaribe Welterweight title holder Alberto Palmetta (10–1–0 (6 KO)) will fight in his first bout since winning the belt back on December 14th. This will be the first time that Palmetta will fight in Charlotte, and just the third time that he will be on a card in the United States. Palmetta will be looking to continue a knockout streak that spans four fights, including a corner retirement in the title fight. As officially confirmed by manager Gardner Payne this morning, Palmetta will face off against former Payne Boxing fighter Marko Bailey (6–2–0 (4 KO)) after Bailey officially called out Palmetta on Monday. Bailey will enter the fight having lost two of his last three fights, though, so there may be even more motivation for him heading into what could be a co-headline fight at this event.
With these three great fighters on the card and many other great fights on the card as well, you can see why NBC’s Today Show will be in the building for the fights and there is a buzz beginning to grow around the Charlotte area.

Esta será la primera vez que Palmetta peleará en Charlotte, y solo la tercera vez que estará en una tarjeta en los Estados Unidos.
