Gardner Payne Named North Carolina Manager of the Year For Fourth Consecutive Year



On Monday morning, Chris Williams of cboxinginfo.com handed out his annual North Carolina Boxing Awards. Despite a COVID-riddled 2020 and a fierce battle that came down to the end in the voting, Payne Boxing manager Gardner Payne took home his fourth straight Manager of the Year. John Madden with emphasis would say, “Bar None” Lawrence Taylor was the greatest football player.” Well, “Bar None” Gardner Payne is the greatest North Carolina Boxing Manager. This is the fourth year of our awards and this is the fourth time Payne and Payne Boxing have Without a doubt been the manager of the year. Alberto Palmetta — Fought twice. He won the WBA International Welterweight Title in August on the Payne Boxing Series and is now #6 in the world by WBA. He fought again in Rock Hill on Nov. 7.

Francisco Torres — Fought once in Daytona in August. Won the WBA Fedecaribe Super Welterweight Title.

Frency Fortunato — Fought twice. once in the Dominican Republic and once on Payne Boxing Series in August.


Lucas Leone — Fought once in Rock Hill. Ranked #14 in his weight class by WBA.

Kelvin King — Fought once on Premier Boxing Series (PBC) in August.

Marcos Escudero — Fought on Showtime in June.

Mirco Cuello — Fought twice. Once in Rock Hill and in December in Columbia.

Juan Carlos Pena — Fought twice. Once in Puerto Rico and once in the Dominican.
